Captain Eric Johnson
Today we have Eric Johnson. Eric is another one of our members who had a love for fire fighting at a young age because he grew up around it throughout his whole life. It is a family tradition for him, as he is a 4th generation fire fighter. His great grandfather, grandfather, and father were all members of the Seaside Park Volunteer Fire Department, and Eric has happily followed in their footsteps. Eric’s father “Skip” as we call him, is also a member in our department as well. Eric began his fire fighting career in 2006 at age 15 when he joined the explorer post at the East Dover Fire Department. From there he joined the Seaside Park Vol. Fire Dept. in 2008 as a full member and fire fighter. During his time there he served as a Lieutenant and Captain before moving to Island Heights, where in 2014 he joined our fire department. He is currently serving as our Captain, and has also been a Lieutenant for us in the past. Eric is also a volunteer instructor at the Ocean County Training Center, and has been a Deputy District Warden for the State Forest Fire Service since 2015. Outside of the fire service Eric has been an Emergency Vehicle Repair Technician, before landing his current job where he works for the Department of Public Works in Island Heights. He is married to his lovely wife of 4 years, Meghan, and together they just welcome their first child Keira to the world this past March 17th. When not serving his community you can find Eric with family and friends or hanging out at Island Beach State Park. Thank you Eric for all of your service to the Island Heights Vol. Fire Company!
