Past Chief Doug Platt
Meet our friend Doug Platt. Doug has been a member with the Island Heights Fire Company since 1984, having served faithfully for 37 years and counting. He is a 3rd generation fire fighter following the footsteps of his Grandfather and his Father. He started his fire fighting career at the age of 16 as a junior member in his dads fire company in West Nyack FD in New York. After moving to Island Heights in 1983 he joined our fire department where he is now a Life Member and currently holds the position of Trustee. Doug has worn many hats during his 37 years, holding the ranks of Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief and Chief. He was also President of the company for 8 years, and was the company Secretary for 7 years. He has also been the OEM coordinator for Island Heights for 30 years! Doug has been married to his lovely wife Maureen for 46 years, and they have three sons Jim, Doug, and Tom, who have all been members of the fire company over the years, as well as 4 wonderful grandkids. Doug is retired from AT&T/Lucent Bell Labs where he was a program manager among many other titles. During retirement you can find him on the golf course, traveling, and swimming or hanging at the beach or the firehouse. He’s always willing to tell war stories and teach the newer members new tricks, and is a valuable part of our fire company to this day. Thank you for your service Doug!
