On February 16th at 1:18am Island Heights Vol. Fire Company, Island Heights Police, and Island Heights First Aid were dispatched to a call for a vehicle that was smoking after being involved in an accident on River Ave. Upon arrival crews observed a vehicle that had lost control and driven up onto the boardwalk causing extensive damage to a portion of the boardwalk before crashing into and knocking over a street light. Crews secured the vehicle battery and made sure there was no fire hazard from the power lines that were pulled down with the street light. JCP&L came to secure power and clean up the street light, and Island Heights DPW came out to section off the damaged part of the boardwalk. Please make sure you do not walk past any cones or caution tape into the damaged area of the boardwalk until proper repairs can be made.
